The Hawaii Prep multisport standout was elected to the HHSAA’s Hall of Honor, earning a $2,000 scholarship from Enterprise Holdings.
The 12-member class, which was announced Sunday, will be inducted June 7 at a banquet in Honolulu.
The only inductee this year from the BIIF, Ewing was a rare league Player of Year in soccer and volleyball. She was named HHSAA tournament Most Outstanding Player in leading Ka Makani to state Division II soccer titles the past two years. Ewing, of Kailua-Kona, has a soccer scholarship awaiting her at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from HPA on Friday.
The rest of the honorees are all from Oahu schools: Kamuela Borden, Iolani (football, basketball, track and field); Tiyana Hallums, Kamehameha-Kapalama (volleyball, track and field); Lena Hayakawa, Mid-Pacific (swimming); Sabrina Hollins, Waipahu (wrestling, judo, track and field); BJ Hosaka, Hawaii Baptist (basketball, volleyball); Ian Kahaloa, Campbell (baseball); Kanoa Kaleoaloha, Kamehameha-Kapalama (swimming); Kawika Lam, Punahou (tennis, basketball); Sarah Lau, Kamehameha-Kapalama (volleyball, soccer, track and field); Micah Ma’a, Punahou (football, basketball, volleyball); Kanawai Noa, Punahou (football, basketball, track and field).
According to an HHSAA release, athletic achievement was the primary criteria for a 16-person selection committee, but character, sportsmanship, academic record and community service also are taken into consideration.
